Italy’s A.Carraro Imoco Conegliano and Poland’s Kędzierzyn-Koźle were crowned champions of Europe’s premiere club competition, the CEV Champions League Volley in early May at the end of a remarkable season, with their exploits closely followed by millions of volleyball fans worldwide.

The success of these two teams coupled with an increasingly enthusiastic audience in these two countries represented a major driving force in making the 2021 season one of the most watched seasons in recent years at a global scale.

It’s not all about the champions however, as the season-long increasing competitiveness of the competition has drawn fans ever closer across an expanding market which has now overcome the 150 million mark, the highest value since 2018, ready to tune in to watch their favourite teams on the volleyball court.

From September 2020 to May 2021, the CEV Champions League was covered through almost 3,000 broadcasts across 71 TV and Digital channels, with Russia (564), Poland (479) and Taiwan (316) leading the way for these efforts that amassed approximately 4.5 million impressions worldwide.

This extensive coverage of the competition lead to double the media impact compared to the previous season, one shorter than anticipated due to the global situation, but also a 23% higher impact compared to an already very successful 2019 season. Poland once again spearheaded the growth of the media impact, over performing the levels of both the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

The Super Finals event in Verona, Italy was a success on its own, with a cumulative audience of over 50 million that generated approximately 750 million impressions, a 156% increase compared to the previous Super Finals event, Berlin 2019.

CEV’s Digital Platform contributes to global access

Launched only a few years ago, CEV’s OTT platform, EuroVolley.TV has seen consistent growth as it offers increasing flexibility and ease of access to a global audience. The 2021 season has seen even more fans tuning in to watch the Champions League on their personal device with approximately 250,000 users generating 1.5 million page views.

With a new season fast approaching, the platform will become more accommodating to fans’ interests, offering even more flexibility and options for subscription, a new fan-centric approach tailored to each segment of the audience.
