AJM/FC Porto claim third consecutive Portuguese Super Cup title
News
The women’s team of AJM/FC Porto claimed the 2021 edition of the Portuguese Super Cup after defeating Leixões SC 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-13), in a match refereed by Maria Michelle Ferreira and Raquel Portela and played at the Santo Tirso competition hall.
This victory represents an excellent start to the 2021-2022 season for AJM/FC Porto under the guidance of their newly appointed head coach, Spaniard Carlos Carreño Cejudo. The roster has undergone many changes as well, and it now includes players transferred from other Portuguese clubs, but also from foreign leagues as diverse as the Brazilian, the French or the American. With this achievement, the blue-and-white club has already three Super Cup trophies in their cabinet - all claimed over the last three years.
Alberto Costa, Mayor of Santo Tirso, and Vicente Araújo, President of the Portuguese Volleyball Federation, presented the medals and trophy to the eventual winners.
Victória Alves Pinto, from Leixoes SC, with 15 points, was the best scorer of the match, followed by FC Porto players Carly Skjodt, with 11, and Renata Colombo, with 10.
Carlos Carreño Cejudo“I am lucky to lead an excellent group, which won last season’s championship and which now, despite so many changes, keeps the same winning attitude. I thank Rui Moreira for the work he has done. In seven weeks, we worked hard to win the Super Cup, as we knew that we would face a very difficult rival and that winning this trophy was very important for the club.”

Renata Colombo“My teammates deserve much praise. In a short time, we managed to make sure players who did not know each other well would play as smoothly as they did today. It is a well-deserved achievement, against a worthy opponent but we are aware that this is just the beginning of a long season, with a long championship [Liga Lidl] where we will face many difficulties.”
Captain of AJM/FC Porto
Miguel Coelho“It is still too early to draw any conclusions about the strength of the two teams in relation to the competitions that lie ahead. Today, AJM/FC Porto, which is a strong team, played better than we did and deservedly won. However, we also have a strong team but we were below par in some fundamentals, especially in service and with our block. Today we could see that two strong teams faced each other and that they can still improve with some extra work.”
