Avarca de MENORCA delight home crowd, THY ISTANBUL still advance to #CEVCupW 8th Finals

On Wednesday night, Spain’s Avarca de MENORCA celebrated a 3-2 home victory against the powerful Turkish side THY ISTANBUL, although the result is not enough to move to the 8th Finals of the women’s CEV Cup 2026. 

Last week, THY ISTANBUL had secured a 3-1 home victory and therefore they needed to take another two sets from the re-match to advance further in the competition. The truly inspired home side representing Avarca de MENORCA and coached by Josep Llorens caught a very promising start to the match with a double 25-20 win in the first and second sets. The large audience at Pabello Municipal de Ciutadella vibrated like never before, while the Turkish team realised quite quickly that the challenge was much more serious than everyone had predicted it would be.

However, the depth of their roster and power came to the fore in the subsequent two sets and with the score standing at 2-2, THY ISTANBUL had pocketed their ticket to the next round.

Even so, the desire of the players from Avarca de MENORCA to take the victory in front of the fans was noticeable and so it was, in a vibrant and energetic tiebreak that ended with the score of 15-11 in their favour amidst great applause.
