News
Calcit Volley KAMNIK swept aside Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR in the championship series of the 2020/2021 Slovenian women’s national league courtesy of three straight wins and thus claimed a second consecutive title in the competition. OK SIP ŠEMPETER completed the podium.
Calcit Volley celebrated their fifth championship title after recording three straight victories over Nova KBM Branik in the final series of the 2020/2021 Sportklub prva odbojkarska liga. The best two Slovenian teams of the last decade faced each other six times this season, with Calcit Volley emerging as the winners on every occasion.
The final series had to stop following the introduction of a 12-day lockdown due to the rising coronavirus infections in the country when Calcit Volley were leading by two wins to none. It seemed that the unexpected break helped Nova KBM Branik bounce back after two consecutive losses. The team from Maribor claimed a 2-0 lead in the third matchup, but Calcit Volley regrouped to seal a 3-2 victory in the end.
Gregor Rozman“In the first two sets, we did not find our way back to the competitive rhythm after 18 days of break. The lack of training was evident, but when it was most necessary, my team stuck together and we managed to bounce back. I am very proud of each of my players. I am happy that we ended this unpredictable final series in this way. I am really sorry that our fans were not allowed to cheer for us in the hall, but I believe that they will be back with us already in the next season.”

The best Slovenian Volleyball players will not have any time to rest. Already on Monday, the national team will gather at their training base in Kranjska Gora and start preparing for the CEV EuroVolley 2021 qualifiers. For that reason, the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia had to cancel the women’s Cup Final. The men’s part of the competition will be taking place shortly after the conclusion of the national championship. Multiple champions ACH Volley LJUBLJANA currently leads the championship series against OK Merkur MARIBOR 2-0, while Calcit Volley have already claimed the third place.
