CHIERI win inaugural WEVZA Cup to secure #CEVChallengeCupW participation

Italy’s Reale Mutua Fenera CHIERI claimed on Sunday the inaugural WEVZA Women’s Cup title to secure their participation in the 2023 edition of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup. In the final match, which followed the pool stage of the competition involving as many as six teams divided into two groups, CHIERI recorded a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) over RC CANNES of France.
The Italians made the home court advantage count as they recorded three straight 3-0 wins in the competition. They join another five Italian teams due to contest the 2023 European Cups – A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO, Vero Volley MONZA and Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA competing in the elite CEV Champions League, as Savino Del Bene SCANDICCI and e-work BUSTO ARSIZIO are due to play in the CEV Cup.
The team from Chieri, a city in the outskirts of Turin, will return to international competition for the first time since 2006 and they will be taking on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s OK GACKO in the Round of 32 of the CEV Challenge Cup.
Leonel Salgueiro, National Technical Director of the Portuguese Volleyball Federation and WEVZA Technical Manager, was the Supervisor of WEVZA Cup Women.
