All eyes were on Italy yesterday as both men’s and women’s CEV Champions League Volley contenders delivered thrilling matches filled with world-class action. In the men’s SuperLega, two of Europe’s most powerful clubs, Civitanova and Trentino, went head-to-head in a match that lived up to its billing, while on the women’s side, the #CLVolleyW teams overcame early challenges to secure clean victories.

The marquee encounter of the day saw Cucine Lube Civitanova and Itas Trentino battle for supremacy in a tense four-set duel. Both sides traded points evenly throughout the night, with every set going down to the wire. Yet it was Civitanova who managed to execute better in the clutch moments of each set, prevailing 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22) to earn their second win of the season. The result also marked Trentino’s first loss, leaving Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia as the only unbeaten #CLVolleyM team in the Italian league.

The match belonged to Aleksandar Nikolov, the 2003-born Bulgarian promising star, who delivered a stunning all-around performance. With four aces and one block, Nikolov racked up 29 points, earning recognition as the undisputed MVP of the match. Supporting him were Eric Loeppky (14 points) and Mattia Bottolo (12), both contributing in key moments to secure the win. For Trentino, Italian outside hitter Alessandro Michieletto led the scoring with 22 points, but his effort wasn’t enough to turn the tide against a well-organized Civitanova side.

On the women’s front, the #CLVolleyW representatives also enjoyed a successful round in Serie A1 Women, all recording 3-1 victories. Defending European and Italian champions A. Carraro Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano faced one of their toughest tests yet against Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76. After dropping the opening set, Conegliano showcased their trademark composure and quality, winning the next three sets to maintain their perfect 6-0 record and continue leading the standings.

A similar pattern unfolded for Savino Del Bene Scandicci and Igor Gorgonzola Novara, both of whom stumbled early but recovered impressively to win in four sets. The depth, resilience, and experience of Italy’s #CLVolleyW clubs once again shone through, underlining their dominance in one of Europe’s toughest domestic leagues.

With Civitanova’s statement win in the men’s league and the continued perfection of Italy’s women’s powerhouses, this leg reinforced why Italy remains the beating heart of European volleyball — where the continent’s top teams and brightest stars continue to raise the standard of excellence week after week.
