The new men’s club volleyball season is still in its early weeks, but the level of competition is already heating up across Europe. As #CLVolleyM contenders continue their domestic campaigns, this weekend brings several heavyweight clashes — including high-stakes battles in Italy and Poland, while Germany’s defending champions aim to bounce back from a rare defeat.

All eyes will be on Italy, where a classic rivalry takes center stage in the SuperLega’s second round. The reigning CEV Champions League Volley winners Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia will host Cucine Lube Civitanova in what promises to be a thrilling showdown between two of Europe’s most successful clubs. Both teams began the season with solid 3-1 victories, showing early signs of their trademark power and precision. Perugia will look to defend their home court and build momentum ahead of a long campaign, while Lube Civitanova will be eager to make a statement by toppling the European champions early in the season. Meanwhile, Italy’s other powerhouse Itas Trentino will target a routine victory against Padova as they aim to maintain their perfect record and assert themselves among the title favorites.

In Poland, fans can look forward to another #CLVolleyM showdown as Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie meet PGE Projekt Warszawa in the PlusLiga’s second round. Warszawa opened their season in dominant fashion, sweeping CHKS Chełm in straight sets, and will now face a much sterner test against a Zawiercie side making their official season debut. Known for their physical style and home-court intensity, Zawiercie will be eager to make a winning start and prove themselves against one of the league’s strongest squads. Elsewhere, Bogdanka Luk Lublin and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów will take on tough opponents but enter their matches as favorites, each looking to make it two wins from two and keep pace at the top of the standings.

Over in Germany, the focus will be on how Berlin Recycling Volleys respond to a surprisingly rough start. After suffering a straight-sets loss to VfB Friedrichshafen in their opening match, the nine-time reigning champions now face SWD powervolleys Düren, who have yet to drop a set this season. For Berlin, this matchup represents an early test of resilience — and a vital opportunity to reassert their dominance in the 1. Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, across Turkey’s Efeler League, #CLVolleyM teams will enter their first domestic matches as heavy favorites, all looking to start their seasons with commanding wins. In Belgium, #CLVolleyM participants will also seek to add early victories in their respective national leagues to keep their momentum heading into European play.

With marquee clashes set to unfold across multiple countries, this weekend promises to deliver top-level volleyball and a first glimpse into how the continent’s best teams stack up early in the race for national — and eventually, CEV Champions League Volley — supremacy.
