The most elite teams of the continent in women’s volleyball took the court for the fifth leg of the #CLVolleyW Group stage, resulting with confident victories for Turkish and Italian powerhouses. This weekend, they will turn their eyes into their new domestic challenges, aiming for an another comfortable win. At the same time, Stuttgart will take the court for top position in Germany against their biggest opponent.
A pretty comfortable weekend awaits Italian CEV Champions League Volley contenders: A. Carraro Imoco Volley Conegliano will face Bergamo in the 17th round of the Italian Serie A1, seeking to maintain their undefeated status. Savino Del Bene Scandicci’s opponent will be UYBA Busto Arsizio, while Numia Vero Volley Milano will host Cuneo. This weekend will be especially important for Milano side, since lastly they suffered a defeat against Novara. Therefore, they will definitely perform at a higher level to show their strength.
Similar to Italy, the Turkish #CLVolleyW squads will meet relatively weaker opponents: Fenerbahce Medicana Istanbul, Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul, and VakifBank Istanbul, teams that stand at the top three places, will take the court for another powerful three-set victory as they did in the fifth #CLVolleyW clash. Fenerbahce currently holds the lead position both in #CLVolleyW Group D and Turkish Sultanlar League, and the goal is surely to keep these places throughout the season.
The most anticipated battle will be held in Germany, where CEV Champions League Volley club Allianz MTV Stuttgart will visit Dresdner SC in the 15th round of the German 1. Bundesliga Women. Stuttgart recently overpowered Polish BKS Bostik Bielsko-Biala in four sets, and took the vice-leader position in the #CLVolleyW Group E. Now, they want to do the same in their domestic league as well: While Dresdner is in first place with 36 points in total, Stuttgart is currently the closest follower with 2 points less. Therefore, any three-point victory might change the leaders in the charts.
This weekend, the focus of Turkish and Italian teams will shift to domestic competitions after their comfortable wins in the fifth round of the #CLVolleyW Group stage. Meanwhile, Stuttgart will face their fiercest rival in a battle for the top spot in Germany. We will see if any surprising results or changes in top places occur.
