News
This weekend, the most anticipated clashes were held in Türkiye and Italy, where the CEV Champions League Volley quarterfinalists took the court against each other, and Eczacibasi and Imoco sides won three-set victories against their important opponents.
In the 18th round of the Turkish Sultanlar League, Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul visited the reigning CEV Champions League Volley champions VakifBank Istanbul. Even though there will be expecting a more challenging match, the Eczacibasi side played a superior game from beginning to end and swept their rivals by a clear score of 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-21).
Eczacibasi’s superstar, Serbian Tijana Boskovic became the top-scorer of the match with 23 points, followed by the Russian Irına Voronkova, who tallied 11. Zehra Gunes’s five blocks and 19 points of Paola Egonu were not enough for VakifBank to win.
With this result, Eczacibasi remained undefeated and took their 18th victory in 18 matches. VakifBank, on the other hand, suffered their third loss, but they stayed in the vice-leader position.
The other #CLVolleyW quarterfinalist of the country, Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul defeated PTT Ankara in straight sets and maintained their third place on the overall standings.
In Italy, the last SuperFinalist, A. Carraro Imoco Volley Conegliano met Vero Volley Milano in the 21st week of the Italian Serie A1 Women.
Throughout the match, but especially in the second set, Imoco was too powerful, and they have not let Milano take any of the sets. Therefore, “the Panthers” received a 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-23) victory over their opponents and perfectly continued their way.
American outside hitter Kathryn Plummer (15), her compatriot Kelsey Robinson (11), and Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak (14) led their teams to this critical victory. Polish Magdalena Stysiak was the only player who scored in double digits (11) on the losing side.
For the #CLVolleyW quarterfinalist of Germany, Allianz MTV Stuttgart just had a comfortable weekend: They played against Neuwied in the 18th leg of the German Bundesliga and left the court with a clear victory (3-0: 25-20, 25-12, 25-17).
Thanks to this victory, they remained the be on the top of the standings. Also, because of an unexpected failure of Potsdam this weekend, the gap between these two teams increased to two wins. Therefore, this was indeed a good weekend for Stuttgart.
With clear victories against the #CLVolleyW quarterfinalists, the leaders of the charts continued their way in Türkiye and Italy, while the Stuttgart side also had no problems maintaining their supremacy in their domestic league.
