In the first of two consecutive matches scheduled for the quarterfinals of the men’s CEV Challenge Cup, Turkey’s Halkbank ANKARA stormed to a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-18, 25-17) over TALLINN Technical University and will need to win two sets on Wednesday to secure their spot in the semis.

Halkbank head coach Taner Atik made a surprise start with young middle blocker Furkan Aydin featuring in the starting six, especially since the youngster has not played much in the Turkish national league so far. Cuban opposite Fernando Hernandez Ramos eventually top scored with 16 points – as Halkbank coach completed the match without asking for a single break.

“They are a strong team and it is not a coincidence that they were able to put up a fight. Every team is precious and full of surprises and the Estonian side managed to create some difficulties to us from time to time. However, we managed to solve them with our experience. We will fight to win the second match as well and wait for our opponent in the semi-finals. We are playing good Volleyball and we want to get a reward for our performances.”
