LAUSANNE UC kicked off their European campaign in style on Wednesday evening at the Dorigny Sports Centre, claiming a commanding 3-0 victory (29-27, 25-20, 25-23) over Norway’s Viking TIF BERGEN in the first round (32nd Finals) of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2026.

Happy faces across the LAUSANNE UC camp following their 3-0 home victory

In front of an electrified home crowd, the Lausanne side delivered a composed and disciplined team performance, showcasing the talent and ambition of a young and united squad. This straight-sets win puts the Swiss side in an excellent position ahead of the return leg, scheduled for next Wednesday, November 19, in Norway.

A well-orchestrated team effort
Right from the opening exchanges, Lorenzo Gallesio’s men set the tone with aggressive serving and solid reception work. Team captain Lucas Ineichen, a cornerstone of the club for over a decade, led his teammates with poise and determination. New American signing Samuel Bridge Burgi, already the top scorer in the Swiss league this year, once again impressed in attack, confirming his outstanding early-season form. He was named MVP of the match after scoring 14 points.

A packed and passionate crowd in Dorigny
Backed by a large and vocal home crowd of 780 people, the Lausanne side thrived in a truly European atmosphere at Dorigny. The Red-and-White family turned out in force, including the UNIL EPFL university community, whose energy and enthusiasm gave the team an extra boost.

Focus shifts to the return leg in Norway
LAUSANNE UC will now travel to Bergen (NOR) next week for the return match.
Another win or even a loss in five sets would be enough for the Lausanne squad to secure qualification for the 16th Finals of the CEV Challenge Cup, an important milestone in the club’s ongoing European journey, where they would play Czechia’s Dukla LIBEREC.
