LEVALLOIS PARIS Saint Cloud have made an important step towards reaching the semis of the women’s CEV Cup by winning the first game in Hungary against Vasas Óbuda BUDAPEST (3-1; 14-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-20).
Alessandro Orefice“We played with a very young setter, and I think she was too stressed in the first set. Afterwards, we made some changes in the distribution of the balls, and it worked out just fine. I am very proud of my players, and I think that we did a great job today.”
The home side took the initiative by surprising their opponent in the first set, winning it comfortably with a near perfect performance. The French team recovered quickly though, stabilised their reception, and equalised in the second set with ease. Both teams showcased great Volleyball in the third and the fourth sets, but the French side emerged victorious in both cases, thereby securing an important away victory in the first leg of the quarterfinals, with as many as five of their players finishing the match in double digits.
Ioannis Athanasopoulos“The block-defence of PARIS got much better after the first set, and we could not control our emotions in the difficult moments. We did not follow the tactics that we had agreed upon and we could not play freely. I am pretty sure we can play much better, and we will try to win in Paris next week.”
