ASKÖ Steelvolleys LINZ-STEG claimed on Sunday their second title in the Austrian women’s national league, thus repeating the feat that they had previously achieved in 2019. The team coached by Roland Schwab beat UVC Holding GRAZ 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-21) after registering a 3-1 victory in the first round of the best-of-three championship series earlier this week.

UVC Holding GRAZ could only put up a fight in the third set, after LINZ-STEG literally dominated the first and second sets. After only 72 minutes, Andrea Duvnjak cashed the first match ball. The players representing LINZ-STEG capped a truly fabulous season, which includes their success in the national cup finals held in February as well.

The top scorers on Sunday were Katharina Holzer (17) and Julia Brown (15) for LINZ-STEG and Ursula Ehrhart (9) and Anja Dörfler (7) for UVC Holding GRAZ.

Teammate Nikolina Maros: “We are of course very happy, but we cannot celebrate a lot, also because of the coronavirus rules in place. Now it is off to the national team. In the first set, we did exactly what we set out to do: above all, we served with a lot of pressure.”

Roland Schwab, coach of LINZ-STEG: “It's really nice! Today my team did really impress me, and they did so especially in the first set! It is good that the Austrian Volleyball Federation managed to make sure that we could end the championship with a final series even in these difficult times.”
