The Polish PlusLiga came to a thrilling conclusion this weekend as Bogdanka LUK Lublin wrote a golden chapter in their club history. In front of a packed arena and under immense pressure, the team delivered a commanding straight-set victory over CEV Champions League Volley semifinalist Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in the fourth match of the playoff finals. With this win, Lublin sealed the best-of-five series 3-1 and were crowned national champions for the very first time.

Entering the decisive clash with a 2-1 series lead, Lublin had the opportunity to close the series and avoid a nerve-wracking fifth match. Zawiercie, on the other hand, were determined to push the finals to the limit. The opening set was a fierce battle, with both teams exchanging points, but once Lublin secured the narrow win in the opener, their confidence soared. From that moment on, the match was under their complete control as they stormed to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-18) victory and captured their maiden PlusLiga title in stunning fashion.

Key to Lublin’s success was the balanced scoring across their roster. Polish opposite Kewin Sasak led the way with 14 points, while his compatriots, the outside hitters Wilfredo Leon and Mikołaj Sawicki both added 13. Yet it was Polish setter Marcin Komenda who truly orchestrated the historic performance. With his sharp distribution, creativity and calm under pressure, Komenda was deservedly named the Most Valuable Player of the match.

For Zawiercie, it was a disappointing finish to another strong season. German opposite György Grozer was the lone double-digit scorer for his team, finishing with 13 points, but the squad struggled to find rhythm against Lublin’s clinical and aggressive play. Despite their consistent presence at the top level, Zawiercie once again finished runners-up—mirroring their result from last season.

The final standings of the 2024 PlusLiga season were also confirmed with the conclusion of the finals. LUK Lublin claimed their historic first crown, Zawiercie placed second for the second consecutive year, and PGE Projekt Warszawa secured the bronze, just as they did in the previous year. Last season’s champions and regular-season leaders Jastrzębski Węgiel ended in fourth.

With their first national title now in the books, Lublin have firmly established themselves among the Polish elite, while the rest of the league will already be looking ahead to 2026 to challenge their reign.
