The final clash for the German Super Cup took place yesterday between the top teams of the country, national league titleholder Allianz MTV Stuttgart, and last year’s domestic cup champion SSC Palmberg Schwerin. The competition was followed by more than 4600 spectators at the Rostock Arena, and a huge crowd supported both teams from the first ball to the last. With a better game in the last two sets, Stuttgart defeated their rival and started the season with a trophy.

The first and second sets were quite exciting to follow, and even though Stuttgart took the first set by 27-25, Schwerin tied it 1-1 after showing superior play. However, Konstantin Bitter’s squad started to dominate the game on the court and won the clash and the title in four sets (3-1: 27-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-21). With this victory, Stuttgart took their first title in this tournament since 2016.

There was a team game on the winning side; however, one player just clearly stood out with her performance: The American opposite of the squad, Krystal Rivers, showed outstanding play throughout the immense battle, and she became the top scorer with 31 points, two aces, and one block. Rivers was honored as the MVP of the tournament thanks to leading her team to this title. Maria Segura Palleres (15) and Jolien Knollema (10) also scored in double digits for Stuttgart.

On the other side of the court, we watched an impressive performance from the Turkish opposite Tutku Burcu Yuzgenc (20 points, including three blocks) and Nova Marring and Jazmine White, who tallied 11 points apiece.

The Stuttgart side now once again showed that they are the top club in Germany, taking the first title of the year. Now, the expectations are getting higher from them: What will Krystal Rivers and her friends bring us this season in the domestic league and, especially, in #CLVolleyW? Don’t forget to follow Stuttgart and the German Bundesliga to get the answer.
