On Wednesday night, the women’s team of Panathinaikos ATHENS continued their flawless journey in the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup by recording a 3-1 home victory (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-17) over Neptunes NANTES of France in the first round of the 16th Finals. With this result, Panathinaikos will have to take two sets from the re-match in Nantes to secure their progress to the 8th Finals.

Panathinaikos emerged victorious from their home match with Neptunes NANTES after losing the opening set

“I think we played well. We know Neptunes NANTES are currently sitting in first place in the French league, and they are a very talented team. We managed to have a good reception so that we could follow and execute our game plan. We are looking forward to game two - which will be a completely different match.”

Ioannis Kalmazidis
Head coach of Panathinaikos ATHENS

Adora Anae, player of Panathinaikos: “It was a great win, but we still have game two, so we must remain determined. We were very focused during the match, and I think that was the key. Our fans are always by our side, and we thank them for that.”

Cyril Vatanara Ong, head coach of Neptunes NANTES: “I think in the first set we performed the way we wanted. After that, we did not play the type of defence game we wanted, we made mistakes and gave points away to the opponent. We want to focus on the rematch at home which will be a different game. We will work on our mistakes and prepare well.”

“Unfortunately, we lost so we must change this situation in the rematch. We have game two to improve the mistakes we made today. After the first set, we were constantly trailing in the score. Our mind is already on the next match.”
