France’s LEVALLOIS PARIS Saint Cloud showed no mercy in their first matchup with Mladost ZAGREB of Croatia scheduled for the Playoff Round of the women’s CEV Cup. They did put much pressure on the young and still quite inexperienced players of Mladost, who could not show their best side and will hope for a much better performance next week in Paris. The visitors from France’s capital deservedly secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-19, 25-23).
The players of LEVALLOIS PARIS Saint Cloud could fully capitalise on their experience and did so especially in the key moments of the match when they made fewer mistakes than the hosts did. Only the service reception did work well for Mladost, and the Croatian coaching staff is hoping that all other elements will be falling into place in time for the re-match in Paris.
Darko Nojic“Even though we lost 0-3, there were some good moments, especially at the beginning of the match and in the early stages of each set. The score remained close halfway through each set, but there they scored some points and broke away. Towards the end of the sets, we were nervous and made some mistakes. They made good use of this and won 3-0.”
Katarina Pavicic, player of Mladost: “Even though we did lose the match, I am still happy and proud of what we did. PARIS play in the highly competitive French national league and they are an incredibly tough opponent. We must regroup and try to prepare better for the match in Paris.”
Emily Grace Thater, player of LEVALLOIS PARIS Saint Cloud: “Congratulations to Mladost on a good match. They are a young and talented team. We scouted them and we did realise they have great serve and great defence. I think we had a lot more experience on our side and in big moments we did some great things. Hats off to our outside hitters and to our setter who did a great job tonight in keeping everybody calm and confident. I am proud of us, but it was a big challenge.”
Alessandro Orefice“It was not easy to come here and to play this match, because Mladost have a young team, but with big potential. Katarina Pavicic, for instance, did play in Italy and she had a good match tonight. We have a full and busy schedule, and we played five sets last Saturday. It was important to win 3-0 because we now have more of an edge for next week. Our goal is to reach the quarterfinals.”
