PIACENZA secure #CEVCupM Playoff Round spot in style

On Wednesday night, Gas Sales Bluenergy PIACENZA achieved their goal by taking the first two sets of their re-match with Spain’s Rio Duero SORIA with much authority, thereby securing their place in the Playoff Round of the men’s CEV Cup. The hosts lost the third set but eventually ended the match in their favour 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 27-29, 25-19).
In the Playoff Round, PIACENZA will face the winners between the Finnish team AKAA Volley and the Polish side JSW JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel: in the first leg in Finland, the Poles won 3-1 (25-16, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18), while the return leg will be played on Thursday evening in Poland.
The Playoff Round precedes the quarterfinals, which will also involve four teams moving from the group stage of the CEV Champions League.
After winning the first two sets and with qualification to the next round in their pocket, home head coach Dante Boninfante gave space to Dragan Travica and Henri Leon with Robbert Andringa on the court for José Miguel Gutierrez Suarez. The Spaniards won the third set in extra time before they surrendered in the fourth. Leon and Lukas Bergmann top scored for the home side with 13 points apiece, while for SORIA, Juan Pablo Moreno Mosqueda scored 15 points and Omar David Hoyos Mejias amassed 13.
