Sven-Erik Borch Lauridsen“I am really proud of what the players delivered today. I think the title is fully deserved, since we have been the best team throughout the season and in this game too. I am so happy for the hard work the players have put in this season, and of course I am also happy to bring home another championship title to the club.”
For the first time in Danish Volleyball history, the two neighbouring clubs of Holte IF and Gentofte Volley locked horns in the championship series. The reigning champions, Holte IF, were the clear favourites, yet Gentofte Volley had proven that they were up to the task and eager to replace Holte IF on the Danish women’s Volleyball throne.
In the final best-of-five series, Holte IF had taken the two first victories, yet only by a hair’s breadth in game two. However, in the third and eventually last game, Holte’s troops seemed too strong and consistent for their opponents to pose a real threat, eventually securing a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
With this year’s gold medal, Holte IF have won the championship title for the last three consecutive years, and 18 times in total. Gentofte Volley won the club’s first silver medal in the women’s Volleyliga.
Sven-Erik Borch Lauridsen, head coach of Holte IF, said about the game: “I am not surprised by the result, but relieved that we managed to play at this level under these circumstances [Holte IFs usual top scorer, Mikala Maria Mogensen missed the last match due to injury]. Our players were able to stay cool when things start to get tense, and they have done so throughout the whole season. It is a perfect example of the level of routine we have on this team.”
