Trentino Crowned Italian Champions, Zawiercie Force Fourth Match in Poland

The domestic volleyball season continued with high-stakes action in Italy and Poland’s playoff final rounds, featuring thrilling performances from some of Europe’s top clubs. In Italy, Trentino reclaimed the SuperLega title after a dramatic five-set victory over rivals Civitanova. Meanwhile in Poland, #CLVolleyM semifinalist Zawiercie fought back to keep their championship hopes alive with a determined win against Lublin in the PlusLiga final.

The fourth match of the Italian SuperLega final saw Itas Trentino and Cucine Lube Civitanova engage in an intense showdown, with the title on the line for Trentino. Holding a 2-1 series lead, Trentino had the opportunity to seal the championship, while Lube aimed to force a decisive fifth match. The encounter lived up to the expectations, with momentum swinging throughout the sets. After splitting the first four sets, Trentino turned up the intensity in the tie-break and secured a memorable 3-2 win (21-25, 28-26, 25-17, 20-25, 15-9), clinching their second national title in three years.

Italian star Alessandro Michieletto, named the Most Valuable Player of the season, delivered a standout performance in the title-deciding match, scoring 22 points with four aces and two blocks. He was supported by Daniele Lavia with 13 points and Kamil Rychlicki with 12. On the opposing side, Aleksandar Nikolov impressed with 23 points for Civitanova, but it was not enough to stop Trentino from lifting the trophy.

In Poland, CEV Champions League Volley semifinalist Aluron CMC Warta-Zawiercie returned to the court in a must-win situation against Bogdanka Luk Lublin, who had taken a 2-0 lead in the PlusLiga final series. Knowing there was no margin for error, Zawiercie responded with composure and intensity, dominating early before closing out the match 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 29-27) to cut the series deficit to 2-1 and keep their title aspirations alive.

Veterans Aaron Russell and György Grozer led the charge with 19 points each, but it was Bartosz Kwolek who earned MVP honors for his all-around performance and 18 points. On the Lublin side, Mikołaj Sawicki also contributed 18 points, but the team fell short of sealing the championship. The fourth match is scheduled for Saturday, May 10.

As Trentino celebrates a well-earned championship in Italy, the title race in Poland is still wide open. Zawiercie will look to carry their momentum into the next match, while Lublin aims to respond and secure their first-ever PlusLiga crown.
