News
This weekend, the Italian #CLVolleyM squads took five-set victories with memorable comebacks, and BR Volleys received an essential win against Friedrichshafen in Germany.
The reigning SuperFinalist of the CEV Champions League Volley, Itas Trentino visited Allianz Milano in the 20th round of the Italian Superlega.
Milano started the match well and found a 2-0 lead in sets. However, Trentino did not give up and tied the score at the end of the fourth set. With a superior game on the tie-break as well, Trentino became victorious in the clash, which lasted more than two hours (3-2: 22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 26-24, 15-8).
Bulgarian outside hitter Matey Kaziyski shone with his performance: Including five aces and a total of 21 points, he became the top scorer of the winning side, while French opposite Jean Patry’s 23 points were not sufficient in the Milano side.
Another Italian CEV Champions League Volley quarterfinalist, Cucine Lube Civitanova also took a five-set victory with an outstanding comeback. They hosted Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza this weekend. Even though they lost the first two sets, they put a great effort on the court afterward and won the fight by a score of 3-2 (18-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-13).
Italian opposite Ivan Zaytsev led his team in this significant victory with a total of 20 points, followed by Aleksandar Nikolov (15) and Herrera Yant (14). Yuri Romano produced 22 points on the losing side.
Thanks to these comebacks, both teams secured their position in the overall standings. The undefeated squad of the league and #CLVolleyM quarterfinalist Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia once again passed their opponent and continued to be top of the standings by taking the 20th victory in their 20 matches.
Two CEV Champions League Volley quarterfinalists, Berlin Recycling Volleys, and VfB Friedrichshafen faced off in the winners’ stage of the German 1. Bundesliga. With taking the support of their fans, BR Volleys defeated their strong rival without any difficulties (3-0: 25-19, 25-20, 25-20), and continued to be on the top of the charts.
It was also a comfortable weekend for the Polish quarterfinalists of the most prestigious continental tournament: The defending #CLVolleyM champion Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and Jastrzebski Wegiel got 3-0 victories this weekend, and continued their way without losing any points.
While two Italian clubs made impressive comebacks in their five-set victories, it was generally a good weekend for the #CLVolleyM quarterfinalists, and BR Volleys increased the gap with Friedrichshafen in Germany.
