With a dominant 3-0 victory over Azerrail BAKU in the second match of 16th Finals, VfB SUHL Thüringen made it two wins from two to make sure that they will continue their journey in the women’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup in January of 2023.

The players of VfB SUHL Thüringen claimed back-to-back victories from their matches with Azerrail BAKU

Pushed by the advantage from their previous victory earlier this week, VfB SUHL started with a lot of self-confidence and put the Azerbaijani team under much pressure. The fighting spirit of BAKU could not change the determination of the Thuringian side to secure a quick decision about the winners of the night. In three almost errorless sets, the team from Germany got the job done in 57 minutes only (25-15, 25-17, 25-9). Serbian middle blocker Anica Kutlesic played a leading role, carrying her team with a 90% success rate in attack, 12 total points, to fulfil the home crowd’s dream of another memorable night in European competition.

“I am happy that we played much better in the second match and showed that we could keep control at any time. We are looking forward to playing in the 8th Finals and we wait now to find out who our opponent will be."

Laszlo Hollosy
Head coach of VfB SUHL Thüringen

Next week, the fans of VfB SUHL will get to know who will face their team in the next round following completion of the double duel between HAIFA VC (ISR) and UVC Holding GRAZ (AUT). The 8th Final matches will be taking place on January 10-12 and 17-19, respectively.
