Winners of domestic competitions crowned in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani Volleyball family had a very busy weekend – which eventually culminated in crowning the winners of domestic competitions.
The final stage of the Men’s Zafar Cup featured four teams. Netfchi eventually claimed the title after edging Murov 3-2 at the end of a very dramatic final match contested at the Sarhadchi Olympic Sports Centre in Baku. Neftchi won the first and second sets by the same score (25-23) before Murov responded to take sets three and four (28-26 and 25-23). Neftchi regrouped in time to take the tiebreak 15-11 and the title.
The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr Farid Gayibov, the Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee Mr Chingiz Huseynzade, the First Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation Mr Faig Garayev and other officials attended the medal ceremony. Mr Gayibov congratulated everyone on the successful season: “I congratulate everyone. It was a wonderful game. I wish you all success.”

The top referees, the Youth and Sports Department of Masally District and the Director of the Sarhadchi Olympic Sports Centre, Colonel Elshan Mirzayev, all received special diplomas and awards presented by the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation.
The 2021-2022 season officially ended with the ceremony awarding the winners of the Zafar Cup as well as of the national league with diplomas, medals, and cups. Team Absheron are the winners of the Women’s Super League, with Azerrail and Murov finishing second and third, respectively. Murov were the winners of the men’s Superleague, with Neftchi and MOIK completing the podium.
