Six Snow Volleyball teams per gender to feature at inaugural EUSA European Universities Winter Championships

On Monday, December 18 in Val di Zoldo, Italy, the first edition of the EUSA European Universities Winter Championships will get underway with the opening ceremony. Hosted in the iconic Dolomites until Thursday, December 21, the event will start with the usual parade of nations involving all participating athletes, followed by addresses from the local, national, and international authorities and a show. 

A total of 230 participants have registered for the event, and they will compete for medals in Alpine skiing, snowboarding and Snow Volleyball. As many as 45 universities are taking part, thereby representing 18 nations (Albania, Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, France, Germany, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and hosts Italy).

The most represented country is Italy with 53 participants from nine universities, followed by Poland (35 participants from seven universities); the university with the largest contingent of athletes is IUAV University of Venice (15), followed by the University of Warsaw (13), Bucharest University of Economic Studies and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (11 apiece).

The Snow Volleyball competition will feature six teams in each gender, representing six countries in total. The following universities are due to contest the much-anticipated Snow Volleyball event in Val di Zoldo:

The inaugural EUSA European Universities Winter Championships are organised by CUS Venezia (the City’s University Sport Centre) under the aegis of EUSA (European Universities Sport Association), in cooperation with FederCUSI and the Venetian universities of Ca’ Foscari and IUAV. The event enjoys the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), as well as the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV), the contribution of the Province of Belluno, Veneto Region, and the support of the Val di Zoldo municipality, Val di Zoldo Tourism Consortium, and Val di Zoldo Funivie.
