Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, February 3, 2020. About 50 players signed up to compete at the ‘Jahorina 2020 Trophy’, a Snow Volleyball competition held at Jahorina ski resort in Bosnia and Herzegovina – one of the venues of the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics. As a result, the event’s goal was to spread the Olympic values, while promoting Snow Volleyball as well, which is growing at a very fast pace in Europe and across the globe as well.
The Volleyball clubs from the municipality of Pale and the Pale Refereeing Commission organised the first edition of the ‘Jahorina Trophy’ with the support of the Volleyball Federation of the Republika Srpska, the Municipality of Pale, the City of East Sarajevo, the Jahorina Olympic Centre and numerous other social and economic partners.
Earlier, thanks to a donation from the FIVB and CEV through the Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Jahorina Olympic Centre distributed Beach Volleyball equipment that is suitable for Snow Volleyball as well and helped with the delivery of the inaugural Jahorina Trophy.
The Glasinac team, who defeated Joker Jahorina in the final 2-1, emerged victorious from the women’s tournament, while the players from Kakanj beat OK Jahorina 2-0 in the men’s final. MVP in the women’s competition was Dijana Ašonja (Glasinac), while Dario Ružić (Kakanj) took the title of best player in the men’s tournament. The top three teams received medals, cups, a share of the prize money at stake and other souvenirs as well.
