Armenia poised to host historic #EuroVolleyU16M Final Round

In about a week, Armenia will host an unprecedented major sporting event - the Final Round of this year’s #EuroVolleyU16M! Ahead of the start of the tournament, an event was held on Northern Avenue, attended by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia Hasmik Avagyan, Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Armenia Karen Asmaryan, members of the Armenian U16 national team, coaches, and sports fans.

Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Hasmik Avagyan welcomed those present and congratulated them on the upcoming event. The Deputy Minister emphasised that the active steps of the federation and the efforts made by the team have been more noticeable recently:

“In a few days, the attention of the sports world will be focused on Volleyball and the U16 European Championship to be held in Yerevan, the heroes of which will be our athletes. I am confident that the athletes are best prepared for the start of the championship, and the organising team is at full capacity and potential, thereby supporting the performance of the Armenian team,”


said Avagyan, wishing much success to the home team. 

The Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs also highlighted the policy established by the Republic of Armenia of hosting international tournaments, which, in his opinion, contributes to increasing the visibility of Armenia on the world sports map.

Members of the U16 national team joined the action as well

Volleyball Federation of Armenia (VFA) Secretary General Karen Asmaryan also congratulated those present on holding an unprecedented Volleyball event in Armenia in 2025 and added that the VFA has been preparing for this event for about three years, doing its best. Karen Asmaryan thanked the coaches, emphasising their invaluable contribution to the team’s successes. The Secretary General of the Federation also thanked the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, Sports and the Yerevan Municipality for their support and expressed hope that everyone will witness the success of the Armenian team in the near future. Moreover, Asmaryan expressed hope that a large number of fans will come together to attend the championship matches and support the Armenian U16 national team.

The #EuroVolleyU16M Final Round will be held from July 23 to August 3, with the participation of Armenia and teams from another 15 countries. The home side will play Austria, Greece, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, and Spain in Pool I. Pool II features Bulgaria, Czechia, France, Hungary, Italy, Serbia, Türkiye, and Ukraine. 

A total of 60 matches will be held within the framework of the championship at the Gazprom Armenia Sports Complex and the gymnasium of the Russian-Armenian University in the country’s capital city.
