On the outskirts of of the 2024 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League Finals in Łódź, Poland, the 12 qualified teams for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the men’s volleyball tournament learnt their fate, with the draw setting their path towards the coveted trophy.
Six European teams entered the fray, with three of them, reigning champions and hosts France, Slovenia and Serbia being drawn together in Pool A. In Pool B, Poland and Italy will rekindle their rivalry, while Germany are the only European team in a well-balanced Pool C.
Poland and Italy have been drawn together in Group B, and will face off again, after meeting in the CEV EuroVolley 2023 Men final, when Poland secured a 3:0 win and clinched their second continental title.
Alongside them in the group are also Brazil and Egypt, with the two European sides being the favourites to progress in the quarter-finals.
In Pool A, three European teams will fight for their place, with France, Slovenia and Serbia also meeting Canada, in another pool which seems well-balanced, with plenty of drama expected along the way.
Germany face an uphill battle towards a quarter-finals spot, but the team which secured their qualification via the FIVB Olympic Qualification Tournaments, is due to face Japan, the United States of America and Argentina
The Olympic volleyball tournaments at Paris 2024 will be conducted under a new format, starting with three round-robin pools of four. The pool winners, the pool runners-up and the two best ranked third-placed teams will advance to the quarterfinals for the start of the single elimination bracket that will lead to the semifinals and eventually to the medal matches to determine the Olympic podium.
The Paris 2024 men’s volleyball competition will feature 26 matches (18 pool play matches, four quarterfinals, two semifinals and two medal matches) at the South Paris Arena, from July 27 to August 10. The men’s match schedule will be released shortly.
