Four sides are still unbeaten in the race for the Final Four of the CEV Volleyball European Golden League 2025 Men, as Finland, Greece, Romania and Israel are heading into the last week of the week round with a four-match winning streak.
Only three of those sides will secure a place in the last act of the competition, as hosts Czechia, which are currently fifth in the standings, with two wins and two losses, will progress directly to the Final Four.
Finland continued their absolutely fantastic streak, leading the pack before the final week, as they dropped a single set so far, after winning the last two matches played in Podgorica, Montenegro.
With a 22-point outing from Luka Marttila and 18 points from Joonas Jokela, Finland delivered a 3:1 win against Czechia, coming back after conceding the first set, 20:25, to take the next three, 25:14, 25:22 and 25:23.
On Sunday, Finland delivered yet another pitch perfect performance, clinching a 3:0 win (25:18; 25:10; 25:23) against Montenegro, powering themselves to the top of the standings, tied on points with Greece, but with a better set point ratio.
Greece delivered two wins in this weekend, 3:0 against North Macedonia (25:22; 25:21; 25:20) and 3:1 against hosts Latvia (23:25; 25:23; 25:17; 25:22), extending their winning streak to four matches, aiming to get back on the podium of the CEV Volleyball European Golden League Men for the first time since 2014, when they lost the final against Montenegro.
Romania also extended their winning streak to four matches, but they are a point behind Finland and Greece, after conceding two sets against Croatia, in Zadar, after having previously won against Spain, 3:0.
Romania took the first two sets against Croatia, 25:21 and 25:22, before the hosts came back roaring to tie the score, 29:27 and 25:20, pushing the match into the final set. There, Romania were cooler and despite Petar Dirlic’s heroic 32-point outing, they took the win, 16:14, basically stopping Croatia’s Final Four dreams.
With a 3:1 win over Slovakia and a 3:2 win over Portugal, with another comeback stopped after leading 2:0 on sets, Israel secured their third and fourth wins, as they face North Macedonia and Montenegro in the next week, two teams with zero chances of progressing to the Final Four.
The last week of the league round will take place this week, as Greece and Finland will collide in Nokia, Finland, while Romania and Israel can secure their spots with two wins in Kutna Hora, Czechia and Strumica, North Macedonia respectively.
Portugal (1-3), Slovakia (1-3), Latvia (1-3), North Macedonia (1-3), Croatia (0-4) and North Macedonia (0-4) are out of contention for a Final Four spot, while Spain (2-2) need a miracle to progress.
