Budapest, Hungary, August 21, 2019. The head coach of Team Hungary, Jan De Brandt has confirmed the final roster of his squad for EuroVolleyW. The tournament starts on Friday when Hungary play Estonia – as the Baltic country make their historic debut on the European stage. 14 players, including Renáta Sándor, Gréta Szakmáry and Rita Liliom have made the cut while another four players - Hanna Bodovics, Lilla Lékó, Ágnes Pallag, Lilla Villám - will not play in front of the home crowd.

“It is going to be a long tournament for us where we have to play at least five matches in a short time. I hope that we can show our top form for our fans who will have the chance to support us at the very first European Championship on home soil,” De Brandt said.

“The preparations are going well inside the iconic László Papp Sports Arena where teams can start to train today. We are working hard to make everybody satisfied after the tournament. It looks like we will have a full house on the first three days so a great atmosphere is guaranteed,” the Secretary General of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation, Zsolt Ludvig stated.

“The preparation was really hard and long with a lot of matches in our schedule. Thanks to that, we can stay calm in different line-ups as well during the tournament,” the captain of Team Hungary, Rita Bokorné Liliom said.

“Over the last days, the most important thing has been to get used to the László Papp Sports Arena which is a much bigger venue than those where we usually play our matches. We want to start the tournament with a victory over Estonia,” home star Renáta Sándor said. Sándor will retire from competitive sport at the end of the tournament.

CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women will be taking place between August 23 and September 8 across four countries – Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Turkey. The tournament will be a history-making moment for Hungary’s Volleyball family, who never hosted a senior continental championship before.
