The first final match of the Men’s CEV Volleyball European Silver League between Hungary and Latvia took place on Thursday. Latvia is now in a better position when going into the second final match as they won 1-3 (25-17, 10-25, 21-25, 11-25) over Hungary.
How invested Latvia was in this match shows the statistics: 14 kill blocks and seven aces! On the other hand, Hungary had 5 kill blocks and one ace.
The first set started off equally for both teams (6-6) and Hungary then went into a five-point series (11-6) and continued on (14-7). There wasn’t much Latvia could have done in this set and Hungarians closed the set by 25-17.
It looked like a pretty good start for Hungary but everything changed in the second set. Latvia began its domination. From 2-5 to 4-10 it was obvious that Latvians walked into this set completely different. The advantage just grew on and they closed the set with 15 points advantage (10-25)!
The third set started off similar to the second one but Hungarians caught on and equalized everything at 6-6. After that, it was played point-by-point but Latvian domination caught on again. From 14-14 to 14-19 they showed all of their strength, mostly in the kill blocks. They closed another set by 21-25.
The fourth set was an easier one for the Latvian team. It started off as a cat-and-mouse type of play but Latvians decided to put a stop to that and they were bringing the set, and match, into the final stages. They closed it by 11-25 and therefore will have a much-needed advantage when going into the second final match that takes place this Sunday. Make sure to catch it live on EuroVolley.TV!
