Bleiburg, Austria, November 18, 2020. VK Dukla LIBEREC of the Czech Republic stormed to a comprehensive 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) victory in their second match with Austrian champions SK Zadruga AICH/DOB to secure a spot in the 8th Finals of the CEV Volleyball Cup 2021 after losing their previous matchup in Bleiburg at the tiebreak. Their next opponent in the competition will be Stroitel MINSK of Belarus.
After claiming a closely fought match on Tuesday night, the locals of SK Zadruga AICH/DOB worked hard to try to stand such a strong performance delivered by their Czech opponents, but they ended up losing in three sets and thus they have to bid farewell to European competitions this year. Earlier this season, AICH/DOB had contested the first round of the elite CEV Volleyball Champions League, finishing second in a pool featuring top teams such as Dinamo MOSCOW of Russia and Bulgaria’s Neftochimik BURGAS.
Middle blocker Simon Krajcovic and opposite Jan Stokr were the most prolific players for LIBEREC, scoring 14 and 13 points, respectively. Maximilian Landfahrer and Daniel de Souza Maciel registered 10 points apiece for AICH/DOB.
“I cannot believe what happened today. The players were emotionless and they did not seem to put up a fight. There was no team spirit. We actually had a good chance of making it to the next round. I have no explanation for what has happened and I am shocked. It will take a few days to process that, and it will be difficult to go back to business after this performance,” said Martin Micheu, Sports Manager at Zadruga AICH/DOB.
