Russia and Poland to lock horns with #EuroVolleyU17W ticket at stake

Russia and Poland are due to lock horns in the final of the 2021 EEVZA U17 Women’s Championship in Daugavpils – where on Sunday they will battle for a ticket to next year’s #EuroVolleyU17W as well.
The eight participating teams started their campaign earlier this week, playing three matches in their respective pools, with the final standing of the group stage determining who is to play who in the matches to classify teams from first to eighth place. Russia and Poland claimed three straight wins in Pool A and B, respectively, to set up an exciting gold medal match. Belarus and Ukraine finished second in their respective groups and they will contest the bronze medal game. Sunday’s programme begins with Georgia and Lithuania vying for seventh place before hosts Latvia play Estonia in a Baltic derby with fifth place at stake.
The winners of the EEVZA championship qualify for next year’s #EuroVolleyU17W in the Czech Republic, while the five teams finishing second to sixth will continue their journey in the second round of qualifiers scheduled for the spring of 2022.
Latvia’s head coach Ieva Neciporuka was especially happy with her team’s victory over Lithuania:
“Before the match, I told them not to wait for a Christmas miracle. We had to develop our own game and play for ourselves, our loved ones as well as for everyone who supports us. I am very happy to see these girls progressing with each day and we are ready for tomorrow’s game against the national team of Estonia.”
