Russia celebrate their triumph at the EEVZA qualifier for next year's #EuroVolleyU17W

“On Saturday against Lithuania, we played with our heart and delivered a very good performance. Today, my girls had the same task – to win, but I think they were emotionally empty. We lost, but overall, I am very pleased and thankful we got a chance to play, taking into consideration that we did not have much time for our preparation."

Latvia lost to their neighbours from Estonia 0-3 (19-25, 19-25, 18-25), but their sixth place is good enough to make sure they will be able to contest the second round of qualifiers scheduled for the spring of 2022.

Team Latvia lost to Estonia on Sunday but were still happy with their sixth place

“We will be working together a lot more, the girls will contest the Latvian youth championship with their own teams and therefore will get a lot more game experience that we really lack of right now,” added assistant coach Janis Jerumanis. “The most important thing is for the girls to gain game experience and then we will be ready for the second round of European qualifiers.”

Russia punched the sole direct ticket to #EuroVolleyU17W after defeating Poland 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 15-25, 25-21) in the final match. Ukraine finished the competition in third place after defeating Belarus 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-15, 25-19). All teams ranked second to sixth will contest the second round of qualifiers in the spring of 2022.
