Serbia’s Volleyball queens claim ‘Team of the Year’ award

The women’s national team of Serbia, bronze medal winners at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympics and EuroVolley 2021 runners-up, have claimed the award for the ‘Team of the Year’ at the annual ceremony organised by the National Olympic Committee of Serbia. The event took place in the grand hall of the National Assembly in Belgrade, with Serbia’s elite Volleyball players securing such a prize for the eleventh time in history.

Jovana Prekovic, Olympic, World and European champion in karate, claimed the award for the ‘Female Athlete of the Year’, as Filip Filipovic, captain of the Serbian water polo team, Olympic champions from Tokyo 2020 and MVP of the competition in Japan, took the honour of Serbia’s ‘Male Athlete of the Year’. Together with his teammates, he received the prize for the best men’s national team as well.

Other prizes went to Dragan Jovic from taekwondo as ‘Coach of the Year’, and Adriana Vilagos, a javelin thrower, winner of the award for the most successful young athlete in Serbia named after the late shooter Bobana Momcilovic Velickovic.

Prof Dr Dragan Radovanovic is the winner of the IOC Olympic Heart award for his contribution to Olympism and for the strengthening of the Olympic movement.

Gyula Mester, First Vice-President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, Jelena Nikolic, Vice-President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, and Dejan Bojovic, Sports Director of the senior national teams, all attended the ceremony to represent Serbia’s Volleyball family.
