Slovenia and Croatia claim MEVZA U20 titles to qualify for European Championships

The MEVZA U20 qualifiers for this year’s European Championships ended this past Sunday, thus marking the culmination of a truly intense competition and defining the teams that earned direct qualification for the respective Final Rounds scheduled for later this summer. 

Croatia punched their ticket to #EuroVolleyU20W with victory at the MEVZA qualifier in Maribor

In a very significant triumph, the Croatian U20 women’s national team clinched their spot in this year’s #EuroVolleyU20W following a 3-1 victory over hosts Slovenia in Maribor. Slovakia settled for third place after a 3-0 shutout of their rivals from Austria. 

Meanwhile, in the men’s event contested in Puchov, Slovakia, Slovenia secured their place in the #EuroVolleyU20M Final Round through a nail-biting 3-2 victory against Austria. Israel travelled home with the bronze medals from the MEVZA Championship following their impressive 3-0 win against Croatia.

Five women’s teams ranked from second to sixth (Slovenia, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, and Czechia) plus four men’s teams ranked from second to fifth (Austria, Israel, Croatia, and Czechia) will try to progress further in the competition via the second-round qualifiers scheduled for this coming April. 

This year’s MEVZA U20 tournaments showcased remarkable talent and set the stage for an exciting European Championship ahead, where the MEVZA representatives will be aiming high against their talented peers from across the continent.
