This coming weekend, the Austrian women’s national team will be competing for a spot in the CEV European Silver League final at the Johann-Pölz-Halle in Amstetten. Their first opponent is Latvia on Friday, followed by Switzerland on Sunday in the final match of the League Round.
As things currently stand, Latvia and Switzerland, who face each other on Saturday, currently hold a slight advantage with a two-point lead. Austria is in pursuit. “With our three recent wins, we have done our job – now it is time to go the extra mile. Only Latvia, Switzerland, and we are still in the race for a spot in the final. That makes things particularly exciting,” says Austria’s head coach Roland Schwab. The two-point deficit stems from their 2-3 loss to Georgia in the opening match. Schwab comments: “Unfortunately, we let that one slip. We need to beat Latvia on Friday and overtake them.”
Amstetten has proven to be a good venue for Austria’s national teams, which is why all this year’s Silver League home matches – including the men’s games in two weeks – are taking place in the Johann-Pölz-Halle. “This year, the setup is even more impressive than in previous events. We can expect some thrilling matches,” says Austrian Volleyball Federation (ÖVV) Secretary General Philipp Seel.
