Turkey reign supreme in Podgorica to qualify for #EuroVolleyU21W

The Verde Sports Complex in Podgorica, Montenegro, played host this past weekend to one of four #EuroVolleyU21W qualifiers. Turkey qualified for the Final Round after registering three consecutive wins. Portugal finished second with two wins and one loss, while Montenegro and Iceland settled for third and fourth place on a record of one and zero victories, respectively.

Turkey did not drop a single set in the three matches that they contested in Podgorica

In the first match of Pool E, Turkey defeated Portugal 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 26-24). With 17 points to her name, Derin Ezgi Tasdemir was the best player for the Turkish team, while Alice Clemente registered 12 for Portugal. Later on Friday, Montenegro defeated Iceland 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-22) with Nevena Vukcevic tallying 20 points, as Simona Petranovic with 14 and Marija Tusevljak with 10 contributed to the home side’s victory as well.

On Saturday, Turkey defeated Iceland 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-9). Tasdemir top scored again for Turkey with 18 points, as Líney Inga Gudmundsdottir piled up eight for the underdogs from Iceland. Portugal edged hosts Montenegro 3-2 (16-25, 25-17, 22-25, 26-24, 15-13) at the end of a very close battle. With an impressive personal tally of 25 points, Alice Clemente stood out for Team Portugal, as Simona Petranovic registered 22 for Montenegro.

Portugal completed their duties on Sunday with a 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-9, 26-24) over Iceland. Alice Clemente was again the best player for Portugal with 20 points. In the last match of Pool E, Turkey defeated host Montenegro 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-16). Melisa Ege Bükmen was the best scorer for Turkey with 15 points, as Simona Petranovic chipped in with 19 for the hosts.
