    Overview

    Flawless ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle (5-0, 15 points, 15-0 sets) welcome third-placed VfB Friedrichshafen (2-3, 5 points). The guests have a very distant shot at the quarterfinals, but mission looks almost impossible for the German squad with favourable outcomes for them in all pools are extremely unlikely. The Polish champions look forward to welcoming back Lukasz Kaczmarek, who returned to action – but only briefly – last Sunday in a national league match with PGE Skra Belchatow after struggling with heart problems.

    We will play without any sort of pressure and fear and we will try to win as many sets as possible, although I realise how difficult it is going to be.

    Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE v VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN

    ZAKSA didn’t start with their titular line up. Przemysław Stępień began as playmaker and in the role of opposites Simone Parodi and Piotr Łukasik. The hosts took the lead from the beginning of the first set, and nevertheless the fact that the guests equalised, the Polish champions emerged victorious from this set.

    The second set was a close call. The guests were showing better game and and only successfull serves  by Kamil Semeniuk let ZAKSA jump ahead. However, the Polish weren’t able to build a bigger point difference until the 19th point, maintaining alive the intrigue in the match.

    In the third set, substitute players entered the court. The captain of VfB Friedrichshafen Nikola Gjorgiev was giving his best to help his team turn the eventual outcome of the match. It was a game of cat and mouse in this part, but flawless, the Polish claimed the victory. Przemysław Stępień became MVP of the match.

    We could have surprised our opponents at least in one set, but the rival was able to use our almost every mistake and deservedly won. I'm glad that we showed fighting spirit.
