VK Lvi PRAHA - Guaguas LAS PALMAS
- The Prague Lions took advantage of their home court in the first set and were more effective on serve, which caused Guaguas numerous problems on the receiving end (25:21).
- The home team flew into the second set with vigour and completely dominated. Particularly Cuban outside hitter Elian was unstoppable in the attack (25:21).
- Guaguas started the third set much more concentrated, avoiding unnecessary errors and keeping a few points lead from the beginning. Opposite Walla played to a good performance (22:25).
- The Lions started the fourth set aggressively and, thanks to several blocks and Schouten's quality service, they built a four-point lead, which, with minor fluctuations, they were able to extend to the winning end (25:22).
- At the least opportune moment, Prague started to burn on the receiving end and stopped doing well on offense. Midway through the golden set, Guaguas led 3:8. In the rest of the game, Las Palmas expertly kept their lead and ended Prague's journey through this year's Champions League (8:15).
VK Lvi PRAHA
- Jakub Janouch (captain of VK Lvi Praha): "Elian has his positives and, of course, his negatives, which I won't mention. The positives are of course that he can hit the ball high, so I used him in what he is good at. If I didn't use him, I'd be stupid. Two sets he pulled it off, then we made a lot of unnecessary errors in the third set, especially on serve. However, we came back, like we've come back several times after losing a set here at home, but we just couldn't handle the tiebreak. It was hard for us to defend in zone 4 because of what their smashers are doing, especially Bruno, hats off to the parameters he has. He's an unbelievable hitter, I didn't expect it at all and I have to congratulate him on that performance. He had a similar performance at home, so obviously that's his standard. I realise we have made history in some way, but the draw was paper friendly. We didn't exactly get a giant. It was a playable opponent but unfortunately it turned out the way it did, there can only be one winner and today it's Las Palmas. I also want to say a big thank you to the crowd, it was the biggest crowd today. I'm glad the club added the stands because it paid off, it filled up and it was something unreal. Even though we lost, we enjoyed the atmosphere a lot and I hope we didn't let our fans down and they will come and support us in those important moments in the rest of the season."
- Juan Barrial (coach of VK Lvi Praha): "I think we played one amazing match. I am really proud of these guys, really I don’t have words to express thanks to all of them because they fought like Lions and we played one amazing Champions League. The golden set is like this. It is only ten minutes and they were better than us in these ten minutes. They will be in quarterfinals. Of course I am unhappy about the result but I am really proud of them because they gave it all and that is most important in the sport. In the golden set they started better than us. Bruno was on fire, he did alone first four five points, putting his team on shoulders. He was the guy who made the difference and was MVP."
Guaguas LAS PALMAS
- De Amo Miquel Angel: "They were pushing a lot because that’s what they had to do after the result in Las Palmas. So we were expecting something like this because they had nothing to lose. They pushed without no pressure, playing very very good. They were destroying our defense and reception. When they started to be more tired we had chance to level up the match. In the golden set we decided to change our mind, to keep more positive. We didn’t speak so much about the tactics but about being more positive and that I think was the key."
