Corigliano Rossano and Warsaw host events this week

The Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour will be in two locations across Europe with Futures events this week, with the Italian city of Corigliano Rossano hosting a double-gender tournament and the Polish capital Warsaw welcoming a men’s stop from Thursday to Sunday.

The fourth Italian stop in the 2024 calendar of Futures events in Europe, Corigliano Rossano will be the destination for 54 teams (28 men’s, 26 women’s) for the next four days, with matches taking place at the beachfront Lungomare.

Two teams that represented Italy in the 2024 CEV EuroBeachVolley will lead the way in the women’s event – top-seeded Claudia Scampoli and Margherita Bianchin and second-seeded Reka Orsi Toth and Giada Bianchi. Challenging the Italians for the title will be fifth-seeded Latvians Marta Ozolina and Luize Skrastina and ninth-seeded Ukrainians Iryna Makhno and Diana Lunina.

The women’s tournament in Corigliano Rossano will feature 26 teams from ten countries – Italy (8), Switzerland (7), Ukraine (3), USA (2), Brazil, Canada, Czechia, Finland, Latvia and Scotland.

On the men’s side, the top two teams are also from the host country and competed at the EuroBeachVolley too – Gianluca Dal Corso/Marco Viscovich and Tobia Marchetto/Jakob Windisch. Portugal’s Gonçalo Sousa/Tomas Sousa and Denmark’s Christian Andersen/Nicolai Hovmann complete the top four in the entry list.

With 28 teams entered, the men’s event in Corigliano Rossano will have duos from 15 countries – Italy (8), Finland (3), Germany (3), Norway (2), Ukraine (2), Argentina, Czechia, Denmark, England, France, Hungary, Latvia, Monaco, Portugal and Switzerland.

In Warsaw, reigning U22 European champions Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson of Sweden and Norwegians Markus Mol and Jo Sunde, who won the tournament in 2023, are the main attractions. Fifth-seeded Maciej Rudol and Michal Korycki are the highest-ranked Polish duo ahead of the start of the event.

The Warsaw Futures, which will be held at the Plaza Wilanow, has 28 teams from 16 countries entered – Poland (5), Lithuania (3), Norway (3), Sweden (3), Israel (2), Ukraine (2), Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czechia, England, Estonia, Germany, Japan, Latvia and Switzerland.

All three tournaments will have the qualifiers on Thursday, pool play on Friday, the Round of 12 and quarterfinals on Saturday and the semifinals and medal matches on Sunday.

The Beach Pro Tour Futures events in Europe are run by the CEV in close cooperation with Volleyball World and provide teams from the continent with several opportunities to compete and gain valuable international ranking points.
