Kyiv, Ukraine, February 6, 2018. Ukraine successfully hosted their first-ever Snow Volleyball national championships this past weekend in the city of Shostka, with two teams from the country’s capital, Kyiv, eventually claiming the top honours. Andrii Golionko and Vitalii Didukh triumphed in the men’s competition, as Olga Dovgopol and Olena Borysenko won gold in the women’s tournament.

The competition took place at ‘Zirka’ stadium in Shostka and it was a close fight for the title as players from as many as 10 Ukrainian cities came together in the inaugural edition of the Snow Volleyball national championship. Three teams from Kyiv and one of nearby Sumy made it to the semis of the women’s tournament – as two tandems from Bila Tserkva and one each from Kyiv and Sumy contested the men’s medal matches.

Dovgopol and Borysenko beat Myloslava Bezpalko/Kateryna Kovalenko in the women’s final, a derby featuring two teams from Kyiv, as Alina Demidova/Anastasia Lysenko from Sumy settled for the bronze medal.

Golionko and Didukh completed the Kyiv triumph in the men’s competition where two teams from Bila Tserkva – Kostiantyn Nesterenko/Viktor Azarov and Anton Didyk/Vadym Burian – completed the podium.

The Ukrainian national champions will now prepare for the CEV Snow Volleyball European Championship, due to take place from March 23 to 25 in Wagrain-Kleinarl and Flachau, Austria. All other players and hopefully many more can start looking forward to the next Ukrainian Snow Volleyball Championship scheduled for 2019.
