Copenhagen, Denmark, June 7, 2016. When actions in Pool A of the 2016 CEV Volleyball European League – Men begin this Friday, the national team of Denmark will be chasing a historic result.

Just a few days before the Danish national team travels to Varna, Bulgaria for the first pool round in this year’s CEV Volleyball European League, head coach Mikael Trolle sounds very optimistic about the kind of performance he expects from his players.

“Our goal is to qualify for the Final Four for the first time ever,” he said. “Our national team has been training on a really high level and has performed really good early in the national team season with three wins out of four matches against Austria and Israel in the run up to the European League. Combined with the things we learned in last year’s edition it is hard to be pessimistic,” he added.

“Our lowest level is substantially better than last year. The question is whether our top level is enough to qualify for the Final Four,” Trolle continued.

Ticket to Final Four will be an endurance test

It is the fifth year in a row the Danish men’s national team participates in the European League. This year the Danes were assigned to Pool A alongside the national teams of Albania, Bulgaria, and the Former Y.R. of Macedonia.

“I am proud and happy that we are part of this fine tournament and can play with great teams. This results from our participation in the 2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship that Denmark co-hosted with Poland,” Trolle acknowledged.

“We have great respect for our opponents. It will be exciting to see which players they bring to the European League,” he said.

The new format of the European League will be a challenge for the players: “We are going to play six matches in ten days, so the endurance and physical abilities will be very important in the chase for a ticket to the Final Four,” he concluded.
