Bucharest, Romania, March 5, 2019. Italian renowned coach Luciano Pedullà travelled to Bucharest earlier this week to sign a contract with the Romanian Volleyball Federation. Gheorghe Vișan, President of the Romanian Federation, enjoyed this opportunity to discuss with Pedullà the future of the Romanian women’s national team. Moreover, the Romanian Federation confirmed that Pedullà would be the head coach of the Romanian national team for the 2019 CEV EuroVolley Women.
Romania will play in Pool C against Azerbaijan, Croatia, Estonia, co-hosts Hungary and The Netherlands, hoping to make it among the top four to progress to the knockout phase of the continental showpiece.
“It will not be an easy task; actually, it is a challenge and that is why I want to take on it. Ten years ago, Romanian star players, such as Parv, Turlea, Trombitas, Butnaru, Corjeutanu or Nucu, used to compete in the Italian national league. I believe that in the next years another talented Romanian “contingent” will return to play in such a highly competitive national championship,” Pedullà commented.
Pedullà was previously head coach of the Italian junior national teams, with two European titles to his name. During the 2015-2016 season, he was the coach of Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA before moving to Monza for the 2017-2018 season. Pedullà returns to coach a national team after a previous experience with Germany back in 2015 (see picture). He will be able to count on a staff including Romanian experts Iulian Vasile Pâslaru, Alexandru Rares Puni and Alexandru Cosma.
Gheorghe Visan, President of the Romanian Volleyball Federation said: “I wanted an important coach after the contract we had with Nikolay Ivanov reached its end. Pedullà is the perfect head coach; by working together, we will be trying to secure a spot for Romania among the top teams in Europe.”
