Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, October 4, 2015. The 2015 edition of the men’s BVA Cup got started on Saturday in the city of Bijeljina, with Serbia’s OK Spartak LJIG and Romania’s C.S.M. BUCURESTI emerging victorious from the semis and getting the right to play for the trophy as well as for the coveted right to participate in the 2016 edition of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men. The home heroes of OK Radnik BIJELJINA and Turkey’s Besiktas ISTANBUL will be fighting for bronze in Sunday’s opening match.
Serbia’s OK Spartak LJIG caused the first sensation of the tournament with their 3:1 victory over pre-favourite Besiktas ISTANBUL (21-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-22). “I would like to congratulate the players of Besiktas and also my guys because together they delivered an excellent game,” said the mentor of Spartak LJIG, Bogdan Velickovic. “We stuck to the game plan we had agreed upon as we prepared for the match, we knew we were the underdogs but at the same time we could also stand a chance. We played relaxed and this way we performed our best. We now have to prepare for the grand finale and are determined to play the best we can,” he added.

In the second semi-final the home heroes of OK Radnik BIJELJINA performed strong as well and put on a real fight but in the end they had to accept a 1:3 loss to Romania’s C.S.M. BUCURESTI (19-25, 22-25, 26-24, 13-25).
“I would like to thank the hosts for the great organisation of this tournament and to congratulate OK Radnik also on the terrific fight they put on in this match,” said the coach of C.S.M. BUCURESTI Rade Dacovic. “I also want to praise the performance of my players and congratulate them on this victory. We came here at a difficult stage of our preparations for the coming season since we haven’t reached our best condition yet. We do expect to perform better than we did today in the matches that are set to follow in the coming weeks. The final match will put us against a strong opponent and we expect a real fight as we all want to get that coveted place to participate in the 2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup.”
The tournament has drawn a lot of attention from the people living in Bijeljina and its surroundings. “Maybe we were a little too impressed by the atmosphere and by our opponent so that we could perform our best for only one set,” said home mentor Darko Manojlovic. “However, we do not have anything to regret. I would like to congratulate our opponents on their victory and now we have set our sight on getting a medal once we play Besiktas for third place.”
