Kaposvar, Hungary, December 14, 2020. Last week was an incredibly busy and exciting one for the European Cups, with competition organised in ‘bio-secure bubbles’ in a number of countries. Among many other highlights, 1. MCM-Diamant KAPOSVAR made history to become the very first team from Hungary to reach the semis of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup.

The Hungarian team did not drop a single set in the two matches they played on home soil in the 8th Finals and quarterfinals of the competition. They first routed TJ OSTRAVA of the Czech Republic on Wednesday, before storming past VP UKF NITRA of Slovakia the following day, doing so in the very same emphatic fashion (3-0; 25-18, 25-19, 25-18).

“We achieved the most we could take out of these two days; my players performed as I expected of them. After defeating TJ OSTRAVA, we played another strong team and we executed our game plan to perfection. We are sorry that we could not celebrate and share this achievement together with our fans. It is a great success for this club, the city of Kaposvar and the whole Hungarian Volleyball community as well. We would like to thank the municipality of Kaposvar and the mayor Károly Szita for their attention and support,” said head coach Sasa Nedeljkovic.

Their next opponent in the semis will be Romania’s C.S.M. Volei Alba BLAJ, whose roster includes a member of the Hungarian national team, setter Réka Bleicher.
